Hello Nighthawks and Friends!
I hope this post finds you physically active and healthy! I know how challenging it can be to stay physically active and motivated when we are asked to spend so much time at home! Then when we do go out, we are being asked to stay socially distant from other people including our friends! Yikes! That makes it difficult to do some of the physical activities we enjoyed so much before Covid-19 changed things for us! However, it is very important to stay physically active! Not only for our bodies health and growth, but also for our brain health and development! I am very grateful to work closely with a great educator - Mrs. Chase! She keeps me motivated by sharing with me all the physical activities she does and she is also working hard to find great resources to keep us all active at home! Please click on the following link to take you to a web page full of great at home physical activities to motivate you to keep your body moving and your brain healthy. Stay physically active and healthy everyone!

Hello Nighthawks and Friends, I hope everyone enjoyed Mother's Day and lots of Love & Gratitude was shown to all our amazing Mom's! I hope this post finds everyone healthy and staying physically active! Speaking of active, what kind of activities are people doing to keep their body moving and minds sharp??? Leave a comment below to share your activity and inspire others to be physically active too! How many of you have started the Learn to Run program? We are in our second week and should have complete three workouts last week! Reeanne, Leeroy, Cudworth and I are headed out for our workout during our lunch break! What a beautiful, sunny day to complete a Learn to Run workout! Remember to stay hydrated, wear a hat & sunglasses and make sure you put sunscreen on! Sun safety is important! Remember to practice proper pacing so you can jog or run the full minute then walk with a purpose/quickly during the one minute of walking! Terry Fox said, "Anything is possible, if we try." What attitude did you choose today and how hard are you prepared to work? Stay health and be active! Mr. Miller Hello Nighthawks and Friends!
Happy Cinco de Mayo! (May 5th) I wanted to have a chat about Attitude and Effort. Remember, at the end of the day we have a lot of things happen to us that we have little or no control over. We do have control over what attitude we choose and how hard we are prepared to work! I feel this is an important message and I make it a regular part of my daily lessons when we are at school. I am sure many students are thinking "not attitude and effort again!" Today (quite often actually) I had to make it a lesson for myself! I am finding it difficult working from home like many other Nighthawk students and staff. There are many new challenges and we all our trying to make the most of our 'different' time during the day. Some days I find it frustrating when I cannot seem to connect with our students and help them with activities that I would have been able to do before, when we were at school. I need to remember that this is about attitude! I could continue to be frustrated or find a different way to think about what I am doing. I could look forth the positive, work hard to find a new way to do things and make it work! Whether we have good or bad things happen to us is not in our control. How we approach what happens to us is up to us choosing our attitude and mind set. I need to approach these challenging situations with an open mind set and a positive attitude. All that I can ask of myself is to put forth my best effort and try! It is ok if it doesn't work, because I can try again and learn from my mistakes! Theodore Roosevelt (former President of the USA) once said, "In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing." So, choose your best attitude, work hard and keep trying! Stay healthy and keep physically active! Mr. Miller Hello Nighthawks and Friends! Happy Monday! I hope this note finds that you had a physically active and healthy weekend! Well' believe it or not, we are 8 weeks away from the end of a much different looking school year! However, as we continue to build our Nighthawk community away from school and in keeping with a strong Nighthawk tradition, I would like to introduce the 8th annual Nighthawk Learn to Run (L2R) program! Yes, this will look different then how we have done the program in the past! Under normal conditions, all of the Osoyoos Elementary classes would muster or meet on the top field twice a week for our L2R program. The students then had homework to complete an additional L2R workout at home. However, with learning from home, we are going to complete the 8 week L2R program at home this year! Please see a description of the program by clicking on the button below. Along with the program description is an 8 week calendar outlining the work to be completed and suggested activities on days we are not completing the L2R workouts. I will also post videos to help with warm-ups and cool downs for the program. As we normally do, I would like every participant to set a 1 Km, 5 Km or 10 Km goal to complete at the end. We will then conduct a virtual 1/5/10 K Nighthawk walk/fun run. Each participant will complete their own fun walk/run and post their completion picture and/or time! This will be the 8th year for this fun, walk/run event! Please remember while participating in this activity to continue to socially distance yourself and be healthy by washing your hands before and after your workouts. Stay healthy, be active and have fun Nighthawks! PS The May Mindfulness and Physical Activity Calendar is posted on the challenges page for you to download and complete the daily challenges too! Enjoy!
Mohawks for Nighthawks!Hello Nighthawks and Friends! How are you? Healthy and physically active I trust! I know that we have talked a lot about community building at school. Now there has been a new focus on community building as we navigate and try to figure out how we are going to stay connected and be together as we learn from home. There are many new ways for us to stay connected and continue to build on the learning community we already established at Osoyoos Elementary. We have Team chats & assignments, zoom meetings, face time, websites, YouTube channels and even this blog as tools to continue to stay connected and supportive of each other during this challenging time! Mr. Murphy has create his own YouTube Channel to keep is connections with the wonderful students and staff at our school. Checkout his page on our Nighthawk PHE site by clicking on Media and then Mr. Murphy or click on the button below for his videos and a link to his YouTube channel! I have also take advantage of this time to convince Mrs. Miller that I need a mohawk and she needs to cut it! Reeanne has helped out by recording the hair cut so we can share it with our Nighthawk community! Leave a comment below about how well you think Mrs. Miller did cutting my hair and any other suggestions you might have for building our Nighthawk Community! Take care, stay healthy and be physically active! Hello Nighthawks and Friends!

Just wanted to make a quick update announcement about our Climb Everest Challenge! Annabel from Mrs. Langley's class and Mrs. Chase have both completed the 58,070 step challenge to reach the top of the World's highest mountain! Congratulations! A job well done! I also completed the challenge averaging just over 11,000 steps a day. You can do it too! Let us know when you or if you already have completed the challenge! Stay healthy and Physically active! Hello Nighthawks and Friends!
I hope this note finds you well and staying active! Do you remember the importance of community and how it plays an important role in our learning at Osoyoos Elementary? In order to create a learning environment, we need a group of like minded people to come together to build a community in our school and classrooms. Especially now with distance learning we have to find new and creative ways to build community and stay connect. Thank you to Ms. Dvorack, Mr. Lewis and the rest of the Nighthawk staff for working to create that community with our Spirit Days! I hope everyone had a chance to submit their Nighthawk/Red shirt photo for last weeks Spirit day. The photos can be seen if you go to our school website https://ose.sd53.bc.ca/ click on our school, then OSE FaceBook. Once on the Facebook page you click on the Sharing Link Validation on the April 24 post and use the password nighthawks to sign in and see the slide show. This weeks Spirit Day photo challenge is to take a picture in your favorite PJ's! I struggle with typing in the right email to send the pictures to ([email protected]) so my photo didn't make it. Mr. Miller continues to work on his technology skills! My photos are below. Stay active and healthy everyone! Hello Nighthawks and Visitors!
Happy Friday! It's Friday right, I think? Happy today! How are you? Staying healthy? How about finding time to be physically active during the day? Leave me a comment about what you have been doing to fire up your heart rate and put a sweat on your body! I was able to squeeze in a spin bike ride this morning! I am pretty luck to have some exercise equipment in the basement but I probably enjoy going out for a walk with my family and dogs the most! No equipment or gym membership needed! Remember to stay safe and socially distant when walking or doing activities outside! Stay healthy and be physically active everyone! Hello Nighthawks and Visitors! I hope this note finds you healthy and staying physically active! For at least 60 minutes a day! Well my producer (Reeanne Miller) is quite a stern task-master. I thought I would take the day off yesterday from making a video and that was not to be. I was inspired by the four week strength program I have been following with Mrs. Miller! We had a fantastic leg workout on Thursday morning and it made me think of how easy we can complete some body squats to improve our leg strength. No equipment necessary! Please watch the video for proper form when doing your squats as it is important for safety and strength building. We also discussed how easy it is to add weight with every day items found around the house! Remember to continue working on your physical literacy at home Nighthawks! |
