Hello Nighthawks and Visitors! I hope this note finds everyone well and staying physical active! Happy Earth Day and congratulation on Earth Day's 50th anniversary! What a beautiful day here in Osoyoos with the much needed rain! We had a great walk outside for our lunch break. It smelled so fresh in the rain and I am looking forward to these April showers bringing May flowers and greening up our desert for a brief time! “The Earth will not continue to offer its harvest, except with faithful stewardship. We cannot say we love the land and then take steps to destroy it for use by future generations.” —John Paul II Let's continue to work on looking after our Environment to the best of our abilities. It is up to each of us to do our part. With proper stewardship and care of the Earth we will be able to enjoy the benefits of nature today and for future generations! “One of the first conditions of happiness is that the link between man and nature shall not be broken.” — Leo Tolstoy As we explore wellness through remote learning, looking back to lessons we have already discussed at Osoyoos Elementary and into the future when we are back at school, we need to remember that the evidence is overwhelming in favor of more time spent in nature! Nature does wonders for our overall well-being and mental health. Let's look after nature so it can continue to look after us! Please leave a comment about your actions for Earth Day or send a picture or video to [email protected]. Take care, stay healthy and be active, Mr. Miller

Well, here we go on Miller Time YouTube channel. Posted my first video after our lunch hour walk! Hope you enjoy it! Mr. Miller Feel free to follow my Miller Time YouTube channel and make suggestions in the comments about what sorts of activities you would like to see on my channel! Make sure to keep it reasonable, I don't want one of my rebuilt or artificial hips to quit and my leg falls off! When we think about mindfulness, there is a strong connection with calm brains and time spent in nature. Makes me wonder how we can spend more time outside, in nature, especially during this time of social distancing? Along with spending more time in nature, tomorrow is Earth day. It is an opportunity to do something kind for the Earth and be physically active in our beautiful, South Okanagan environment!
I enjoy noon walks with my daughter and our two dogs. While out and about we pick up garbage to keep our community and environment clean. We use hand sanitizer to clean our hands and wash our hands for a least 20 seconds if not more when we return home. What can you do to help the Earth tomorrow? Maybe we can make it a year long commitment? Leave a comment with your ideas! I saw the following comment on the Daily Kind #1065:
Today I am KIND! I am one piece of a puzzle that creates the world. My job is to do my part to make the world a great place. I thought this was an important message during this challenging time. We can all make mistakes from time to time but what we do to make them right is very important. We also need to remember we can not control others but are responsible for our own attitude and effort! If we do are part to be kind and respectful, together with all the other people who are doing the same, we can make a positive difference in our world! I hope this post finds you well and completing at least 60 minutes of physical activity a day! In our health classes we talked about the importance of sleep! We need sleep to help repair our bodies from all the physical activities we complete and to allow our bodies to grow during childhood! Do your remember that ages 5-13 require 10-11 hours of sleep each and every night? Parents; we need 7-9 hours - yikes! It is important to have a consistent bed and wake up time, while stopping screen time 1-2 hours before bedtime. Eating a healthy, well balanced meal earlier in the evening also helps us sleep! Keep up the physical activity and make sure you are getting enough rest! Take care and stay active! Mr. Miller Hello Nighthawks and Visitors!
Welcome and I hope this post finds all well and staying active! Do you remember that the minimum suggested amount of physical activity for children and youth is 6o minutes or more each day? Showing up is the most important! It does not matter what kind of physical activity you do as long as you get it done! Whether it is in the house, out in the yard or somewhere in the community as you keep social distant, all physical activity counts towards your total minutes for each day! I am about to head out on my lunch break with my daughter to walk our dogs for thirty minutes. My daughter has already jumped on the trampoline for 20 minutes, so we only need 10 minutes more today! After our work/school day at home we plan on working in our rock garden later this afternoon to complete 60 minutes and likely more of physical activity today! Stay positive, keep active and be healthy! "The willingness to show up changes us, it makes us a little braver each time!" ~ Brene' Brown Hello Nighthawks and all visitors,
Here is a link to the website Life Vest Inside's 'Daily Dose of Kindness #1061'. The Daily Kind Act of Kindness challenge! Try connecting with a friend through a video call and teach them a new skill! You could teach a musical instrument, dance or new physical skill. Or even challenge them to a contest, like a push-up challenge! Feel free to comment below about your act of daily kindness! Have fun, be connected and stay kind! Hello Nighthawks and all visitors,
Thanks a ton for checking in! I hope all are well and finding ways to stay active while still physically distancing from others! Nighthawks, do your remember from our Physical and Healthy Education (PHE) classes about the importance of daily physical activity? What part of the body most benefits from regular exercise? Did you answer our brain! Our brain and mental wellness benefits first from physical activity, then the rest of our physical body systems like our muscular system and circulatory system! Are you finding ways to be physically active for at least 60 minutes a day? Are you able to do more? How many different and creative ways have you been active already. Please comment below with what you have done to stay active or what you are planning this week to get a sweat on! Let's share our great ideas! Stay health, active and have fun! Hello Nighthawks and anyone else who may be joining us!
I am so excited about this website and starting a blog. I hope to continue the work we were doing together at school through this website. We can continue to work on inspiring and motivation each other to take care of ourselves, each other and stay physically active! I am wondering what creative ideas people are having to stay physically active while we are physically distancing ourselves? Leave a comment below to share with others! What an interesting time in the world and for education! Remember all the work we did around Mind Set? Do you have and open or closed mind set? Were you tired of talking about mind set before we went to remote learning? Well here we go again with Mind Set! It is up to us to choose how we see our situations now and the way we think about what is happening to us! Let's continue the positive habits we were working on before Spring Break. Remember minding your H.E.N.S.? Are you drinking enough fluids and choosing water as your first choice? How much exercise are you getting each day? Is it a least 60 minutes of physical activity each day? What does your plate look like when you sit down to eat! Are you making Nutritious choices with half of your plate covered with fruits and veggies? Finally, are you getting 10-11 hours of sleep each night? Parents are you getting at least 7 hours? Yes, challenging times! But, let's rise up to the challenge and make the most of it! Even though we may be physical distancing our selves, we can still be socially and emotionally supporting each other in staying positive, making our wellness a priority and staying physically active. Stay healthy and strong! ~Mr. Miller PS, thanks for the photo suggestion Mr. Bayliss! Welcome to my first blog post. Really excited about this new website
