Nighthawk Leadership Club
Nighthawk Leadership is grounded in the value of 'Me to We' from the Free the Children Foundation. (Please see the WE.org link below for more information and some great at home leadership ideas!) 'Me to We' is the idea that individuals can take positive action to make a difference in our world. This can be locally in our school & communities or globally by making differences for people and the environment around the world. Our Leadership group spends time reflecting on important issues and virtues that can be tackled and how we may influence positive change in one or more of these areas! Please see the examples below!
Nighthawk Giving Tree Initiative
In November we attended the student leadership conference WE Day in Vancouver. Jared Stene came back with an idea to help support our local less fortunate people by collecting warm clothing and non-perishable food items! He called his initiative The Giving Tree and with the help of his Grandfather, he constructed a tree to have donated items hung on. He then rallied his friends to help. They created awareness around our school and set off to collect over a hundred clothing items for the Giving Cupboard, Osoyoos Charity and many food items for our local food bank! Amazing work Nighthawks!

Nighthawk BC SPCA Group
A group of students had a desire to make a difference for our fury friends out there who do not have a voice of their own. Our Nighthawks created an awareness campaign for animal rights and fund raised money, food and bedding for our local SPCA in Penticton. They collected over 20 items of bedding, several food items for animals and $240! Well done Nighthawks!

Lunch Monitors
Nighthawk lunch monitors provide an immeasurable service to our school by having Grade 6 & 7 students mentor our primary students during the eating time. It is a special time for children of different ages & grades to connect and build community within our school. Younger students are able to learn new skills and habits from our older students. And our intermediate students gain valuable leadership skills in the process. This valuable program creates a lasting legacy for our Nighthawk students by creating anticipation for younger students to look forward to the time when they can become lunch monitors. Great work Nighthawks!
